Sensuous Enemy 2012

Sensuous Enemy 2012

We have a lot to tell you about AND we have an exciting announcement! For those of you who don’t know about us, Sensuous Enemy is a female fronted electronic darkwave band that’s been around for almost a decade! We have worked hard writing, recording and performing solid music while going to school and working multiple jobs in order to support our number one passion…Music!

We started in 2004 and put out our first album “Deadly Sins”, which included six original songs and one cover that was released on Sonic Mainline label out of Madison, Wisconsin, owned and operated by Matt Fanale of the band Caustic.

In 2006 we came out with our first full length album “Fragments” with eight originals, one cover and four incredibly powerful remixes from some of the most well known bands in the EDM Industrial music genre.Fragments
The album was mixed and produced by Wade Alin of the bands The Atomica Project & Christ Analogue in Chicago and also released on Sonic Mainline label.

Then after a couple of years of continued growth and changing members we signed to a new label called Radio-Active-Music [RAM] out of Virginia Beach, Virginia, owned and operated by Laura Hofford. We released “Parity” in 2010 with three original songs and seven fabulous remixes.
SE_Parity_online_artworkIn 2011 we continued writing new songs, we designed a new light show, performed numerous shows throughout the Midwest and we delivered a powerful and exciting east coast tour.

Sirens of the SeaBy the middle of 2013 we had written nine more songs. We wrote and recorded all summer and released our single “Sirens of the Sea” this past September with five moving remixes. In one short week you’ll now be able to purchase and listen to our newest and second full length album “Voyager”, with nine original songs, mixed and produced by Wisconsonites Dan Clark of Listless Works and mastered by Eric Oehler of Submersible Studios!
We will be performing most of “Voyager” at The Frequency in downtown Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday November 16th, with our new label mates Null Device and pounding dance beats provided by DJ Siberia!

Voyager

That isn’t all though. The best news is that we recently signed with the long established, well known Nilaihah Records out of Columbus, OH,owned and operated by Kristy Venrick of the band The Azoic!! Both our single “Sirens of the Sea” and our full length album “Voyager” will be released under Nilaihah Records this month! We’re so excited to be a part of the Nilaihah team of bands and friends!! Check out our music and some of the fabulous bands currently signed to Nilaihah Records!

We look forward to performing for you in the near future. Thanks to all of our family, friends and fans and for all of your support, love and dedication. We could not have done this without YOU!

Recently, John Freriks, our programmer/guitarist, moved to Chicago to find work in his field of studies and to move on with his life in a bigger city. This venture will offer him many opportunities that he just won’t find here in small town Madison where jobs are few and people are vastly over-educated. We are truly happy for him and wish him the very best on his new path in the windy city. This does not mean that we won’t continue to write, record and perform music, it just makes it a bit more complicated.

It’s only been a few weeks and already one of the things I miss are our regularly scheduled Thursday rehearsals, the time when we would talk about songs we’re working on and ideas for our next CD, or about sound and lighting from the most recent events we attended or about the political landscape of America. It was the few moments of this particular day where I felt like all parts of my life came together and made sense, but now it feels a bit disjointed and I am struggling to figure out where we go from here.

We will continue to work together using the internet, various applications and communication tools in order to keep making music together, however, not physically being together to talk about all of it is going to be very difficult for me. I truly enjoy the intimacy and connectivity of the weekly rehearsals, getting together to chat about our lives and playing music together. Although my head knows this is a good decision for John, my heart says something entirely different.

With all the recent changes of John’s move and discussion on how we’re going to evolve Sensuous Enemy, we had to make a hard decision. Due to the direction we’re going, we felt the need to pair it down to the bare essentials in order to continue as a more electronic band with a cleaner sound.  We thought long and hard about our decision and finally made the change last month. This doesn’t mean that we won’t ever use a live drummer again, but for now, we’re going to try it without one by programming more drum tracks and having our keyboardists produce synth sounds instead. We are grateful for the time and energy Chris Wenzel gave to Sensuous Enemy and we wish him the very best in his future musical endeavors. Please wish him a good farewell.

Sensuous Enemy Loki and Thor

Cyber Perversion Loki and Thor

Thank you to all of our darklings who made it to the 3rd annual Cyber Perversion show at Club Inferno in Madison, Wisconsin! We had a lot of fun  with our Avengers costumes and we really enjoyed playing with our co-villains Cynergy 67 (Upper WI), V is for Villains (Chicago, IL), and AS/OF (Minneapolis,MN), along with DJ EfN (Green Bay, WI), and our very own DJ Psych0tron (Madison, WI).  Thanks to Apollo of  the Inferno for  a great venue space and to Rooster for running sound for all of us.

We were able to showcase two of our new songs “Freedom from Religion” and “Sirens of the Sea”, we just completed this past September. Both songs went over really well and we received a few kudos for them.  “Freedom from Religion” is a word speak with a melodic chorus. Since we have never done a song like this  before, the style of writing and performance really shocked some some people. “Sirens of the Sea” is definitely going to be a dance floor favorite as many started bouncing as soon as it began. All in all, it was a really fun fest and we look forward to doing it again next year!

Over the next few months, we’ll be working hard to write and record music for our next CD “Voyager”. We’re excited to get something new into your hands by Summer of 2013!

So by now, I’m sure most of you dear readers have heard the musical endeavors of Sensuous Enemy. If you haven’t, then you are simply missing out and should skip reading the rest of this post and instead spend your time checking out our music that’s available on a large number of digital sources all over the internet. If you’re looking for supplemental material available live in the mid-west 3+ weekends of every month, however, then read on.

Team-Keyboards: Katja and B0B

The folks that caught our last live show back in November already got a chance to meet the two newest live members of Sensuous Enemy: Team-Keyboards, aka B0B and Katja.

Both of us are very much looking forward to getting back on stage and rocking out for the Electronic Saviors 2 release parties in Madison and Chicago next month, but while we’re not rehearsing new material and making extreme-derp faces when people bust out cameras during practice both of us have had regular DJ endeavors in the region for over a decade now focused on all things dark and electronic that we’d like to highlight in this post.

DJ :EYG:

Katja, aka DJ :EYG:, has been dropping beats since the late ’90s. After many years of regular spots in the Milwaukee and Madison areas and countless guest spots all over the country, she currently calls Chicago home with a DJing residency at Pandemic: Chicago’s premiere industrial/EBM promotions and DJ crew. Performing alongside DJs Qbot, JenaMax, Pathogen, and Kriegschrei, they can be found in Chicago every first Friday at Exit for the Pandemic Industrial Dance Night, as well as different themed “Pandemic Presents” events every second Friday.

DJ psych0tron

B0B, aka DJ psych0tron, has been spinning aggressive dark dance beats around the mid-west for 13 years now. He currently resides at Club Inferno in Madison, hosting REVERB every 3rd Saturday alongside a different regional DJ every month. He is also featured on the initial roster of the up-and-coming Bass Asylum network of independent producers and DJs based in Milwaukee, and you can expect to see him making additional DJ appearances in and around the Milwaukee and Madison areas in the near future on top of the countless guest spots already performed through out the mid-west for the past decade.

With 3 weekends of every month featuring members of Sensuous Enemy destroying dance floors in Chicago and Madison, guest DJ appearances around the mid-west, excellent studio progress on new Sensuous Enemy material, and two live Sensuous Enemy shows booked in June with hopefully more to come during the summer, we’ve been keeping busy and hope that you folks enjoy all of the creative musical outlets we have out there and continue to enjoy the ones to come.

Hot new members recently added to Sensuous Enemy!

DJ :EYG: and DJ Psych0tron

Katja Lunde, formerly of The Gothsicles, will be doing live keyboards for us beginning in November.  Ms. Lunde is formerly a native from Madison, Wisconsin and is currently living and working in Chicago, Illinois.  She is excited to be a part of Sensuous Enemy and brings a lot of excitement and experience with her from her time spent touring and performing with The Gothsicles .
Also joining us again, one of our former members Bob Hensley aka DJ Psych0tron, is coming back to do keyboards and synths.  Bob is an amazing percussionist and pianist with an uncanny knack of putting his own special flare to everything he does.  We are excited to have these incredibly intelligent, talented and gifted people join us and become a part of what we love to do most…write and perform electronic/industrial music!
Our first show all together will be on 11.11.11 at Club Inferno with Thought Thieves so come out on and help us celebrate with cheap drinks, great music and sexy people.  You won’t want to miss it!
