Sensuous Enemy 2012

Sensuous Enemy 2012

We have a lot to tell you about AND we have an exciting announcement! For those of you who don’t know about us, Sensuous Enemy is a female fronted electronic darkwave band that’s been around for almost a decade! We have worked hard writing, recording and performing solid music while going to school and working multiple jobs in order to support our number one passion…Music!

We started in 2004 and put out our first album “Deadly Sins”, which included six original songs and one cover that was released on Sonic Mainline label out of Madison, Wisconsin, owned and operated by Matt Fanale of the band Caustic.

In 2006 we came out with our first full length album “Fragments” with eight originals, one cover and four incredibly powerful remixes from some of the most well known bands in the EDM Industrial music genre.Fragments
The album was mixed and produced by Wade Alin of the bands The Atomica Project & Christ Analogue in Chicago and also released on Sonic Mainline label.

Then after a couple of years of continued growth and changing members we signed to a new label called Radio-Active-Music [RAM] out of Virginia Beach, Virginia, owned and operated by Laura Hofford. We released “Parity” in 2010 with three original songs and seven fabulous remixes.
SE_Parity_online_artworkIn 2011 we continued writing new songs, we designed a new light show, performed numerous shows throughout the Midwest and we delivered a powerful and exciting east coast tour.

Sirens of the SeaBy the middle of 2013 we had written nine more songs. We wrote and recorded all summer and released our single “Sirens of the Sea” this past September with five moving remixes. In one short week you’ll now be able to purchase and listen to our newest and second full length album “Voyager”, with nine original songs, mixed and produced by Wisconsonites Dan Clark of Listless Works and mastered by Eric Oehler of Submersible Studios!
We will be performing most of “Voyager” at The Frequency in downtown Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday November 16th, with our new label mates Null Device and pounding dance beats provided by DJ Siberia!

Voyager

That isn’t all though. The best news is that we recently signed with the long established, well known Nilaihah Records out of Columbus, OH,owned and operated by Kristy Venrick of the band The Azoic!! Both our single “Sirens of the Sea” and our full length album “Voyager” will be released under Nilaihah Records this month! We’re so excited to be a part of the Nilaihah team of bands and friends!! Check out our music and some of the fabulous bands currently signed to Nilaihah Records!

We look forward to performing for you in the near future. Thanks to all of our family, friends and fans and for all of your support, love and dedication. We could not have done this without YOU!

Sirens of the Sea

SIRENS OF THE SEA!!

We just released our new digital single EP “Sirens of the Sea”! The CD includes remixes from I:Scintilla, Endless Blue, Loss and Killcrop! One original and five remixes are FREE to download on our Sensuous Enemy at Bandcamp account. You can also pick it up from our Sensuous Enemy at Soundcloud account.

Thanks go out to Dan Clark of Listless Works and Eric Oehler of Submersible Studios for recording, mixing and mastering this fabulous single EP for us!

Our sophomore full length CD “Voyager” will be released this November 2013!!

dirty gay handsToday in Think Progress there was an article about gay Catholics who were told by Cardinal Dolan that they have ‘dirty hands’ and suggested that anybody who engages in same-sex sexual acts is unwelcome at Church. In protest to this absurd lack of compassion and mercy, at approximately 9:30am Sunday morning, May 6th, ten gay Catholics proceeded to dirty their hands  in order to show the rejection they felt and how inhumanely they were being treated by the church they are all members of.

The ten men were prohibited from going into the church by “four police cars, eight uniformed officers, a police captain, and a detective from the Police Commissioner’s LGBT liaison unit”. What a waste of taxpayers money spent on a silent peaceful protestors!

Here’s what Sensuous Enemy has to say about that!

Verse1

Freedom from the nightmares freedom from the day
Freedom from gender roles a game I have to play
Freedom from the hunger freedom from this life
Freedom from everything that destroys all my rights
Freedom from suffering freedom from shame
Freedom from the words that burn like acid rain
Freedom from anxiety freedom from depression
Freedom from drugs that wipe out all the passion

CHORUS
Freedom from religion freedom from the lies
Freedom from the truth that everyone denies
Freedom from the violence freedom from the pain
Freedom from the hateful words that infiltrate my brain

VERSE 2
Freedom from judgment and preconceived ideals
Freedom from oppression and wounds that never heal
Freedom from censorship… Mentally confined
Freedom from black and white… suppresses the mind

CHORUS
Freedom from religion freedom from the lies
Freedom from the truth that everyone denies
Freedom from the violence freedom from the pain
Freedom from the hateful words that infiltrate my brain=

Freedom from slavery freedom from fear
Freedom from the haters standing up to jeer!
Freedom from slavery freedom from fear
Freedom from the haters standing up to jeer!

Sensuous Enemy Loki and Thor

Cyber Perversion Loki and Thor

Thank you to all of our darklings who made it to the 3rd annual Cyber Perversion show at Club Inferno in Madison, Wisconsin! We had a lot of fun  with our Avengers costumes and we really enjoyed playing with our co-villains Cynergy 67 (Upper WI), V is for Villains (Chicago, IL), and AS/OF (Minneapolis,MN), along with DJ EfN (Green Bay, WI), and our very own DJ Psych0tron (Madison, WI).  Thanks to Apollo of  the Inferno for  a great venue space and to Rooster for running sound for all of us.

We were able to showcase two of our new songs “Freedom from Religion” and “Sirens of the Sea”, we just completed this past September. Both songs went over really well and we received a few kudos for them.  “Freedom from Religion” is a word speak with a melodic chorus. Since we have never done a song like this  before, the style of writing and performance really shocked some some people. “Sirens of the Sea” is definitely going to be a dance floor favorite as many started bouncing as soon as it began. All in all, it was a really fun fest and we look forward to doing it again next year!

Over the next few months, we’ll be working hard to write and record music for our next CD “Voyager”. We’re excited to get something new into your hands by Summer of 2013!

Sensuous Enemy 2012 Promo ShootSince you last heard from us in August, we’ve been working on a few new songs this fall that we’re excited to showcase for you on October 20th. We’ll be performing at Club Inferno in Madison, Wisconsin for the 3rd Annual Cyber Perversion. The first song we previously performed at our last show titled Red Ropes, was inspired by a beautiful woman who thoroughly enjoys sensory rope play. The second song is Freedom from Religion, which we think will be a new favorite. We’ll be performing this one in a different style that imitates or mimics speak-say or rap using a female computer voice setting. Finally the third song is Sirens of the Sea we’re attempting to finalize this week.

Aside from working full time, I’m also attending Madison College trying to finish up my A.S. in Marketing. In one of my classes this semester I’m working as an Intern for the Literacy Network of Dane County, Madison. This will really help me gain experience working for a business doing Marketing with an emphasis on Social Media. Needless to say, it’s been a rough month, but we’re still able to squeeze in a couple of rehearsals each week to make sure we’re staying on top of things and to prepare for our next show on in October.

Right now we have about half the songs we need for our next CD “Voyager”, and although we wanted to get it done by the end of the year, it looks like it’s going to be more like Spring of 2013 if all goes well. So keep listening and tuning in each week as we talk about the process of creating these songs and what inspires us.

Here is a great article about five different ways to start writing songs. We attempt to do this by switching between programming and piano. Recently, John has been starting the songs with a few drum tracks and synth tracks and then I add lyrics and melody lines. This works well for us some of the time. But what I find really works for me as a composer/artist/singer, is to sit down at my piano and come up with a song that I can just transfer to John once the core of it is complete.

The main struggle for me is finding the right time and energy to sit down and play the piano for a couple of hours. It takes a lot of discipline, which I’ve never been very good at when it comes to playing the piano for more than 20 or 30 minutes.
So, after reading this article, we might attempt to begin our songs with a different approach and see how it goes.

We all know someone or a relative of someone who has fought cancer and either survived it or didn’t.  For those who beat it, after enduring chemotherapy, radiation and a host of other torturous treatments, there is always the question in the mind of the cancer survivor…will it come back again?  Cancer is a disease that affects all of us in one way or another.  It’s especially difficult to swallow when it happens to someone who has made such a positive humanitarian social impact.

Electronic/Industrial/Rock music scene promoter, DJ and Rein[Forced] frontman, Jim Semonik is the brains behind the Electronic Saviors compilations. Jim survived stage 2B colorectal cancer in 2008, and then created one of the most successful compilations with 83 musicians, presented in a lovely 8 panel digipak with 16 page booklet titled Electronic Saviors: Industrial Music To Cure Cancer.  This project raised over 20K for Charities.

This new release,  Electronic Saviors 2: Recurrence,  includes 142 artists from all over the world with exclusive tracks from Wisconsin’s very own Sensuous Enemy,  The Dark Clan, Caustic and Null Device,  along with bands Covenant, I:Scintilla, The Gothsicles, God Module, System Syn, Project Pitchfork, Rein[Forced], 16Volt, Ayria, XuberX, Ego Likness, The Azoic, Bella Morte and many more . This incredible project includes beautiful and insightful artwork from Jeff Confer and Samantha Johnson.  The boxed set will be released on May 8th and can be pre-ordered from Metropolis.

“Jim dedicates this body of work to all who have suffered with cancer as well as survivors and loved ones touched by the disease.”

John's Torture Rack

We’re currently working on a few new songs for release in 2012.  It’s been awhile since we’ve produced a new one, so it’s time to get this SE train moving forward!

Now that a few of us will be off school and work for a couple of weeks over the winter break, we’ll have more time to continue the creative process.
Right now, we’re anxiously awaiting the release of Electronic Saviors II so you can hear a song we wrote and recorded for our friend Jim Semonik .

We’ll get this blog thing down sooner or later, so stay tuned for more from Sensuous Enemy!
