Each time we put out an album, we submit our music for nomination to the Madison Area Music Association Awards. This year we submitted “Voyager” for Electronic Album, “Sirens of the Sea” for Electronic Song, “JAI” for Female Vocalist and our very own keyboardist “BobO’Tron” for DJ.

The MAMAsThe MAMAs, Inc. is organized and operates exclusively for charitable or educational purposes, as defined in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The mission of the MAMAs is to support the preservation and expansion of all forms of music education in the Madison area, and to encourage and promote the artistic advancement of our emerging musical youth.

Please consider supporting the next generation of artists and musicians by voting for  Sensuous Enemy at the MAMAs. The cost is $5 to register and the proceeds all go to support the next generation of musicians in Wisconsin. Go to http://www.themamas.org and sign up today! Make sure to click View Summary/Record Vote before leaving the site to make sure that the artists you have chosen are selected.

We will be performing our songs from our new album “Voyager”, along with a wide variety of other MAMAs nominees, at a benefit show taking place at The High Noon Saloon and The Brass Ring on Memorial Day Weekend. We’ll post more details as we receive them. Thank you for your support!

I really enjoyed finding this “Killer Infographic” from Digtal Cowboys Blog.

Although making money has never been a primary goal for Sensuous Enemy, we do want to make sure that what we are doing follows most of these great suggestions for at least following our dream as a musician. We will continue to write, record, and perform as long as we keep our dream alive and keep striving for excellence.

It is with much sadness today that we announce our label Radio-Active-Music will no longer be in business. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Laura Hofford Wilder, the owner, over the past two years and wish her the very best in her endeavors as she continues on with her new life in Colorado

We are thankful that we had the opportunity to have met and worked with so many wonderful and talented musicians, like The Dark Clan and XuberX, whom we’ve gotten to know much better due to being on the same label. It’s been a good run and we hope to find another label with as much vim and vigor as Radio-Active-Music!

So, until we find a new label home, you can still find us here at sensuousenemy.com and on CD Baby. We look forward to whatever the future has in store for us and we hope you’ll remember all the by-gone labels that brought you so many great artists and songs!

We all know someone or a relative of someone who has fought cancer and either survived it or didn’t.  For those who beat it, after enduring chemotherapy, radiation and a host of other torturous treatments, there is always the question in the mind of the cancer survivor…will it come back again?  Cancer is a disease that affects all of us in one way or another.  It’s especially difficult to swallow when it happens to someone who has made such a positive humanitarian social impact.

Electronic/Industrial/Rock music scene promoter, DJ and Rein[Forced] frontman, Jim Semonik is the brains behind the Electronic Saviors compilations. Jim survived stage 2B colorectal cancer in 2008, and then created one of the most successful compilations with 83 musicians, presented in a lovely 8 panel digipak with 16 page booklet titled Electronic Saviors: Industrial Music To Cure Cancer.  This project raised over 20K for Charities.

This new release,  Electronic Saviors 2: Recurrence,  includes 142 artists from all over the world with exclusive tracks from Wisconsin’s very own Sensuous Enemy,  The Dark Clan, Caustic and Null Device,  along with bands Covenant, I:Scintilla, The Gothsicles, God Module, System Syn, Project Pitchfork, Rein[Forced], 16Volt, Ayria, XuberX, Ego Likness, The Azoic, Bella Morte and many more . This incredible project includes beautiful and insightful artwork from Jeff Confer and Samantha Johnson.  The boxed set will be released on May 8th and can be pre-ordered from Metropolis.

Here is a really good article by Bob Baker, who is the author of “Guerrilla Music Marketing Online,” Berkleemusic’s “Music Marketing 101” course, and many other books and promotion resources for DIY artists, managers and music biz pros.

1. Support local businesses who are willing to support you, by building relationships and doing cross promotions with them.

2. Support local artists by promoting their shows, offering to hang fliers and post updates about their shows online.

3. Support other bands by purchasing a ticket,  attending their shows, and standing in the audience during their performance

“Relationships are what lay the foundation for a thriving music career. You need to nurture and build them slowly and genuinely.” says Bob Baker.

These seem like simple steps to us, and for the most part we try to follow them.  We even tag team shows in town when one of us is unable to make it, so we make sure one of the members from Sensuous Enemy is in attendance.  We make every effort to be their for our band friends and try to support them as much as we can.  If we don’t support them, then why would we ever expect them to support us.  Maybe they will, maybe the won’t, but at least we’ll know we did our best to help keep music alive and active in Madison!

What are some of your favorite shows you have attended in Madison so far this  year?
What was your favorite Madison show from 2011?

Musical Goddess

Want to know why everyone hates the music industry scum sucking executive overlords? Because they do shit like this! All for the mighty dollar. Couldn’t they at least 24 hours for a moment of silence.  She was after all what made those fuckers filthy rich to begin with!

Since SOPA and PIPA have come to light over the past month, it would interesting to find out what all our friends fans think about the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act

Huffington Post put out a good article on January 19th, 2012 titled “What is SOPA? Anti-Piracy Bill explained” that thoroughly explains what SOPA is and how it could be abused heavily. “The legislation would allow copyright holders and the Justice Department to seek court orders against websites associated with copyright infringement. SOPA, the House version, applies to both domestic and foreign websites, while PIPA targets foreign websites. If that court order is granted, the entire website would be taken down. Internet users who typed in the site’s URL address would receive an error message, and for all appearances, the site would never have existed. Importantly, the court does not need to hear a defense from the actual website before issuing its ruling. The entire website can be condemned without a trial or even a traditional court hearing.”

So, basically, if we as a band use a snipet of any copyrighted material, including sound bites from movies, the maker of those movies could obtain a court order to shut down our entire site, force credit card companies to stop processing payments to our site, make google remove it from search results, and force 1and1.com from hosting it on the web!  Then, it would take a court order to get it back up and running. SOPA makes it a felony to stream copyrighted video without permission, punishable by prison time

For a well established band, even if they have legal permissions, a mere accusation without evidence could happen, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars and most likely a musician’s entire life.
