Sensuous Enemy 2012

Sensuous Enemy 2012

We have a lot to tell you about AND we have an exciting announcement! For those of you who don’t know about us, Sensuous Enemy is a female fronted electronic darkwave band that’s been around for almost a decade! We have worked hard writing, recording and performing solid music while going to school and working multiple jobs in order to support our number one passion…Music!

We started in 2004 and put out our first album “Deadly Sins”, which included six original songs and one cover that was released on Sonic Mainline label out of Madison, Wisconsin, owned and operated by Matt Fanale of the band Caustic.

In 2006 we came out with our first full length album “Fragments” with eight originals, one cover and four incredibly powerful remixes from some of the most well known bands in the EDM Industrial music genre.Fragments
The album was mixed and produced by Wade Alin of the bands The Atomica Project & Christ Analogue in Chicago and also released on Sonic Mainline label.

Then after a couple of years of continued growth and changing members we signed to a new label called Radio-Active-Music [RAM] out of Virginia Beach, Virginia, owned and operated by Laura Hofford. We released “Parity” in 2010 with three original songs and seven fabulous remixes.
SE_Parity_online_artworkIn 2011 we continued writing new songs, we designed a new light show, performed numerous shows throughout the Midwest and we delivered a powerful and exciting east coast tour.

Sirens of the SeaBy the middle of 2013 we had written nine more songs. We wrote and recorded all summer and released our single “Sirens of the Sea” this past September with five moving remixes. In one short week you’ll now be able to purchase and listen to our newest and second full length album “Voyager”, with nine original songs, mixed and produced by Wisconsonites Dan Clark of Listless Works and mastered by Eric Oehler of Submersible Studios!
We will be performing most of “Voyager” at The Frequency in downtown Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday November 16th, with our new label mates Null Device and pounding dance beats provided by DJ Siberia!

That isn’t all though. The best news is that we recently signed with the long established, well known Nilaihah Records out of Columbus, OH,owned and operated by Kristy Venrick of the band The Azoic!! Both our single “Sirens of the Sea” and our full length album “Voyager” will be released under Nilaihah Records this month! We’re so excited to be a part of the Nilaihah team of bands and friends!! Check out our music and some of the fabulous bands currently signed to Nilaihah Records!

We look forward to performing for you in the near future. Thanks to all of our family, friends and fans and for all of your support, love and dedication. We could not have done this without YOU!

dirty gay handsToday in Think Progress there was an article about gay Catholics who were told by Cardinal Dolan that they have ‘dirty hands’ and suggested that anybody who engages in same-sex sexual acts is unwelcome at Church. In protest to this absurd lack of compassion and mercy, at approximately 9:30am Sunday morning, May 6th, ten gay Catholics proceeded to dirty their hands  in order to show the rejection they felt and how inhumanely they were being treated by the church they are all members of.

The ten men were prohibited from going into the church by “four police cars, eight uniformed officers, a police captain, and a detective from the Police Commissioner’s LGBT liaison unit”. What a waste of taxpayers money spent on a silent peaceful protestors!

Here’s what Sensuous Enemy has to say about that!

Freedom from the nightmares freedom from the day
Freedom from gender roles a game I have to play
Freedom from the hunger freedom from this life
Freedom from everything that destroys all my rights
Freedom from suffering freedom from shame
Freedom from the words that burn like acid rain
Freedom from anxiety freedom from depression
Freedom from drugs that wipe out all the passion

Freedom from religion freedom from the lies
Freedom from the truth that everyone denies
Freedom from the violence freedom from the pain
Freedom from the hateful words that infiltrate my brain

Freedom from judgment and preconceived ideals
Freedom from oppression and wounds that never heal
Freedom from censorship… Mentally confined
Freedom from black and white… suppresses the mind

Freedom from religion freedom from the lies
Freedom from the truth that everyone denies
Freedom from the violence freedom from the pain
Freedom from the hateful words that infiltrate my brain=

Freedom from slavery freedom from fear
Freedom from the haters standing up to jeer!
Freedom from slavery freedom from fear
Freedom from the haters standing up to jeer!

We had a fantastic show on Saturday and really enjoyed sharing a stage and getting to hear some new music by Gentleman Loser with a special appearance by The Mad City Sister Nuns along with some really well done NIN covers by incekt! Shotglass Sally joined us with grinding for four of our songs and Mizz Lillzz did a couple of fabulous sword belly dance routines on the back stage during the intervals between bands. Also there were absolutely delicious KUPCAKES by Kate!

There was a really good crowd with lots of energy and friends we haven’t seen in many years. We showcased three of our new songs that will be on our new album “Voyager” coming out Summer 2013, which were a smashing success! We also sold a few CD’s, made some new friends, and only came away with a few minor cuts n bruises.

Our next live show will be with Thought Thieves in Minneapolis, MN at Ground Zero with Bondage A Go Go immediately following!

I’m always interested in new music performance technology, especially tools that enhance the output without hindering the process of performing live music. Imogen Heap, a brilliant composer and award winning artist, recently promoted and performed with a pair of the magical “Music Gloves” at Wired 2012.

Heap visited the MIT Media Labs in 2009, where she met Elly Jessop, who designed the original gesture gloves that could record and loop the voice with just a few intuitive hand gestures. When Elly sang a note, she could move her hand and change the instrument, vibrato, timbre, or a moving harmony. The combination of the intuitive music and movement excited Heap so much that she called Tom Mitchell, who had worked with her to program her Monome for a Letterman performance, and explained the idea to him . Tom loved the idea, and after receiving funding from the University of Western England to do a research paper, Heap asked 5DT for a set of gloves to begin the process.

It took several years for a team from the University of West England, along with Kelly Snook Adam Stark, Hanna Perner-Wilson, Rachel  Freire, Becky Stewart, and a few others to fully develop the tool.  An Xbox Kinect sits at the back of the stage and translates Heap’s position to provide different effects and layers. The floor literally becomes a playground, where she can walk in any direction and change the sound. As Heap moves toward the back of the stage the sound gets fuller and much bigger, but if she moves towards the audience at the front of the stage, the sound then becomes softer and more intimate.

Due to how Imogen makes her music, 50% of what she is doing on stage is never seen. She just presses a button and new sounds begin to move and pulsate. With this new technology, the audience can now see and hear everything she is doing on stage during her performance. The music Heap now performs is literally 3D in action. After many years and hours and hours of programming, the gloves via the user interface, Heap finally has a perfect and completely controllable live instrument using only her body on stage in order to shape and create her beautiful intelligent music!
